Pietro Pilotti in the European Youth Parliament

When you look at a picture, many things might tickle your eyes. What makes a picture most striking however, are the colors. The same thing goes for EYP and its people. They let you remember what you’ve seen vividly, even after years.

One such a fellow – and a special talent in the EYP is Pietro Pilotti from Italy. The EYP has been a fascinating experience for him and his contributions are highly valued by the network. As you read on you will discover his very own EYP journey.

EYP - La Famiglia

On this day one year ago, I became a member of the European Youth Parliament, or for friends, EYP. Although it does not seem like a large range of time, in just a couple of months this family has radically shifted my lifestyle and approach to learning. Along this intense journey indeed, I’ve come across hundreds of peers: people from all angles of Europe with different and unique stories, but all linked by the same incurable hunger for knowledge. Referring to EYP as a ‘family’ is not casual, as, through an impressive amount of available events, it gives the opportunity to come in touch with new people as well as experience the joy of reuniting with the ones you already met.

Lessons for a Lifetime

Since May 2022, I’ve attended four sessions in four different countries, always supported by a family which, beyond the economic possibilities, had the capability to understand the real benefits behind each experience. EYP indeed didn’t only give me the opportunity to radically improve my English skills, but most importantly it allowed me to speak in front of hundreds of people about worldwide themes and topics, boosting my public speaking skills. Last but not least, EYP helped me become more prone to listen and better comprehend the opinions of others, and consequently, to productively work in a group, as a group.

"EYP reversed my current lifestyle"
Pietro Pilotti

As previously mentioned, EYP reversed my current lifestyle, while possibly shaping my future working career. It has instantly created a vicious cycle, due to which even if I could attend all sessions, I won’t be enough satiated by it. I feel the necessity at this point to make a step forward, trying to initiate my path as an official member, as I would like to approach this world with even more closeness.

In conclusion, I would like to highlight how encouraging students to engage themselves in such initiatives would represent a radical shift in the youth’s perspective toward daily aspects and issues while developing critical thinking and contributing to developing our society. It is a transition we are able to begin.

Final words

As beautifully stated by Pietro above, participation in the EYP is a great deal for a young person’s development. I fully agree with him when he writes that encouraging young students (and apprentices too) to take this chance is valuable for everyone involved. I therefore recommend doing this to any parent, teacher, or caretaker.
